This Mysteries give to us some advantages, like this :
1. terrible book
Worst Patterson book every. I have tried to read it but got real bored, real fast and can't not waste my time trying to finish it. I have read all of Patterson's books and have enjoyed them but this is just awful.

2. MEDIOCRE JAMES PATTERSON AT THE FORE!
A James Patterson book not in the mold of his other trademark books. Hard-hitting, in patches, and enjoyable to a certain level, Confessions: The Private School Murders will come as a big disappointment for many diehard fans of this ace writer. The plot is too predictable, and though attempt has been made to keep up the tempo, the book does not live up to expectation. However, if you are someone out looking for something to read, just anything, you'll still find the book engrossing enough to keep you going to the very end.

Confessions: The Private School Murders by James Patterson is an ordinary book by his standard yet, those who are new to the author will find enough ammunition as it still is a powerful and hard-hitting story with a complexity and meaning that reverberates past the boundaries of the pages of this book.

Sadistic
Rafe is a sadistic bastard who only cares about himself and uses sexual torture to keep Ari in line. He was a total turn-off. Blackmail, kidnapping, sexual torment...the female character needed to call his bluff and walk away. So disappointing at the ending; the author leaves you hanging so you'll buy her next book in the series. This type of guy is un-redeemable. This type of female disgusts me.

1. fast paced and sexy
Deadly offerings captured my interest from the opening dialogue and held it until the final suspenseful ending...I hated to put it down--not only was the story line fast paced and thought provoking, the characters were hot, yet believable. The author used just the right amount of humor and wit to keep the book entertaining. I am looking forward to her next "deadly" novel.

2. You Can't Put This One Down
This book is a lot of fun. It's suspeseful, action-packed and keeps you guessing throughout the book. There's never a dull moment. This book is one you will want to read in one sitting because you just can't wait to see what happens next. I'm really looking forward to finding out what happens between Lane and Frankie in the next novel, "Deadly Delivery."

Sucks
I was excited to read this one because I hadn't tried the author yet and it had consistently high review scores. Because it did, I had to write a review and warn off others.

Maybe it was the translation to eBook, but I found the writing style so sloppy that it distracted from the storyline. There were numerous points of view, which is ok in moderation. I like reading a scene from the heroine's point of view and then the hero's. But it switched randomly from first person to third person, one character to the next then to an unseen impartial viewer; confusing and weird. Also, the author was none too creative when it came to the love scenes. If I had to read about a "sensuous light" passing between the two main characters one more time, I was going to throw up. I can't even figure out what that means.

The author has a gift for description in places, but her characters are a little nutty. If I were Anne, and this guy saved me outside a bar but then shows up at a gas...

The Unwanted Wife

All Alessandro de Lucci wants from his wife is a son but after a year and a half of unhappiness and disillusionment, all Theresa de Lucci wants from her ice cold husband is a divorce. Unfortunate timing, since Theresa is about to discover that she’s finally pregnant and Alessandro is about to discover that he isn’t willing to lose Theresa.

This Contemporary give to us some advantages, like this :
1. (3.5 stars) Surprisingly good romance.
When I read the synopsis of this novel and some of its reviews, I hesitated to download it. It sounded too angsty with somewhat unbelievable cruelty on the part of the husband. But then the book kept on getting more and more favorable reviews and I figured it was worth trying out.

I'm so glad I did. This is angsty and I still felt the hero had been unbelievably cruel at the beginning of the marriage, but the growth of their relationship was romantic, sweet and hot and sometimes tense, and had some really heart-wrenching moments. See if you can read without being moved the big scene at the beginning of the story when the wife has finally had enough and explodes, verbally and physically, at her husband. There are some powerfully emotional moments in this story.

There were some frustrating moments also. Yes, the husband does start to see the error of his ways and try to improve the relationship, but I think more in-depth conversations about everything...

2. Excellent Angsty Read
This is one of the better books I have read recently. Coming from an unknown, self-published author, I was not expecting much. I was pleasantly surprised, however.

The Hero treats the heroine horribly and she decides to leave him. What follows are 10 months of the Hero trying to convince the h he changed and the h just not buying it. He realizes what a horrible person he has been and shows the heroine a new, better man.

The only real improvement would have been if we had a bit of the Hero's perspective.

For .99 this book is a steal. I highly recommend it.

Wonderful Read!!
If you used to read Harlequins and sometimes wondered how the doucheb*g alpha hero could be redeemed into someone that you could see the heroine forgive and put up with, then you should read this book.

In this book the Hero hurts the heroine who adores him because he's put in a position not of his choice. The best part is she doesn't put up with it forever, she has enough and she wants out, by which time the hero's eyes are opened and he does spare no effort into convincing her that he is sorry and showing her that he loves her.

I like that his actions do reflect his words.

A consistent sweet read and plus points to the heroine while being vulnerable and staying non-bitter still stood up for herself!!

I will be checking out other works of this author.

1. Not a full story--Wish authors would be honest about what they are giving away
Granted I got this for free, so I got what I paid for. I'm tired of authors not being honest about what they are giving away. If you are giving away a teaser to sell your upcoming book, be honest about it! I'm okay with short stories or novellas that tell a whole story but I get very annoyed with giving away something that stops in the middle in the hopes we will buy your book--UNLESS you label it as such. The writing itself was okay and might have made an acceptable romantic novel but I'm annoyed that the story stops in the middle. Bad marketing practice as far as I'm concerned. Doesn't endear me to the author. They advertised the free "book" months ago and it has been in my cue waiting to download since then. They had plenty of time to write an honest description and chose not to.

Updated 7/3/2013: I notice the description has now been updated to say that it is an intro to the novel that was released July 2, 2013. But I ordered the book on 2/11/13 and waited till...

2. Half a book
What's here is the first five chapters of a good contemporary romance. Nowhere did I find a mention that this was "book one" or when/where the rest of the story can be found. I found that very misleading and disappointing, as it left me in the middle of a story with no resolution in sight. The story is well written, the characters could use a little more fleshing out, but so far are pleasing and interesting. There is no real plot as of yet, except the attraction the hero feels for his son's nanny, and she for him, though they are both fighting it since she's his employee. I feel a bit cheated, and I'm glad this was free.
Heat factor moderate.

Teaser
I thought this was a complete book. I have no problem with short stories or novellas, but I have no patience with stories chopped up into smaller pieces, often in arbitrary fashion, for the purpose of hooking readers and/or making more money. Pen your story, and publish a full book. Kindle offers the option to download a sample, and really this is all this book is.
I found the story so far very predictable, so much so that I had feelings of déjà vu in places. The characters also need to be developed more fully, something that is difficult to achieve in such a short story. I doubt that I will bother picking up further instalments.

This Contemporary Women give to us some advantages, like this :
1. Intriguing examination of conscience
I am a huge fan of Liane Moriarty and I have enjoyed every single one of her novels, most recently What Alice Forgot and The Hypnotist's Love Story. The Husband's Secret is her fifth adult fiction novel and for me, her best yet.

"For my wife, Cecilia Fitzpatrick
To be opened only in the event of my death"

She found the envelope amongst a stack of old tax records and imagined it contained a sentimental message, given it was dated just a few days after the birth of their first child, fifteen years ago. Cecilia has no idea that the letter will blow her world apart.

The story of The Husband's Secret unfolds from the third person perspectives of three women, Cecilia, Tess and Rachel. At first the connections between these women are peripheral but the secret Jon-Paul has been keeping for decades will change them all.

Cecilia has been married to John-Paul for fifteen years, they have three bright and beautiful daughters and a busy, happy life...

2. The Husband's Secret - available Aug 29, 2013
Wow! I rarely give out 5 stars for a novel, it has to be exceptional, and this is. A difficult review to write without giving too much away. Suffice it to say that the writing is what makes it exceptional. Moriarty develops each character with a skill that has the reader often wondering... what would I do in this case? The way she strings the relationships together make this fiction novel totally believable, has the reader caring about each character, drawing us in and reading far later than we intended to.

Would you have married your spouse if you knew he harbored a secret from his teens that paints an entirely different picture of the man you have known, loved and lived with for many years? Does 28 years of self-inflicted "penance" for a wrong-doing committed as a teen, make up for the mistake, when other people are still living with the consequences? People don't always make the right choices, and not making a choice sometimes is exactly that, a choice. A...

A Compelling Novel About Secrets, Huge and Terrible
I became a big fan of Liane Moriarty's novels after reading "The Hypnotist's Love Story"; she writes compellingly and realistically of modern marriage, betrayal, joy and heartbreak. So I was thrilled to have the opportunity to review her latest, "The Husband's Secret", which I thoroughly enjoyed.

There are three main characters, Cecilia, Rachel and Tess, who are all experiencing upheavals in their lives. Moriarty excels at describing how the quotidian details of one's life can change due to the "before and after" of cataclysmic events. She deftly uses both Tupperware and the Berlin Wall as metaphors for sealing in and keeping out.

The novel is about secrets, and I don't want to reveal any of them because Moriarty does it so brilliantly in the novel. Basically we are asked, as observers, to contemplate how a person can live with a huge and terrible, secret. And how can you live knowing someone else's huge and terrible secret? Human existence is complicated and...

Wilderness (Short Story) (Kindle Single)

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLERWith this darkly intriguing original e-short story, Dean Koontz sets the stage for his masterly new novel of mystery, suspense, and strange wonder—Innocence.   “The world is a machine that produces endless surprises and mysteries layered on mysteries.”   Addison Goodheart is a mystery even to himself. He was born in an isolated home surrounded by a deep forest, never known to his father, kept secret from everyone but his mother, who barely accepts him. She is haunted by private demons and keeps many secrets—none of which she dreads more than the young son who adores her.   Only in the woods, among the wildlife, is Addison truly welcome. Only there can he be at peace. Until the day he first knows terror, ...

This Literary give to us some advantages, like this :
1. Tease
It's Koontz, so the writing is fantastic. The character is fantastic. It draws you in immediately. So, why the three stars? Because it's so short it isn't even a short story. It's just a tease to get you to buy the novel -- which I wouldn't even mind if this had been free, but at 99 cents I kind of feel ripped off paying to read an introduction to a character. And not even a full introduction, since you have to buy the novel to find out what exactly is going on with him.

2. disappointing
Not really a short story but an intro to the upcoming book. Disappointing sales tatic. Not the way I prefer to be introduced to a book or to buy one.

Capitalism at it's worst
This isn't a story, it's not a chapter, it's simply marketing material aimed at getting you interested in the next book. Shame on Koontz, the publisher and Amazon. This is clearly a money ploy and I fell for it. Shame on me for not knowing better. While $.99 isn't much, it's a lot for a 10 minute read that goes nowhere.

Just One Evil Act: A Lynley Novel (Inspector Lynley)

#1 New York Times bestselling author Elizabeth George delivers another masterpiece of suspense in her Inspector Lynley series: a gripping child-in-danger story that tests Detective Sergeant Barbara Havers like never before. Barbara is at a loss: The daughter of her friend Taymullah Azhar has been taken by her mother, and Barbara can’t really help—Azhar had never married Angelina, and his name isn’t on Hadiyyah’s, their daughter’s, birth certificate. He has no legal claim. Azhar and Barbara hire a private detective, but the trail goes cold. Azhar is just beginning to accept his soul-crushing loss when Angelina reappears with shocking news: Hadiyyah is missing, kidnapped from an Italian marketplace. The Italian police are inve...

This British Detectives give to us some advantages, like this :
1. DISAPPOINTING AND IRRITATING
I have every one the Lynley/Havers series of books and have read most more than once. I pre-ordered this book and was excited to start it. Unfortunately I'm extremely disappointed so far. One of the things I love about most of the series is its realism and even when previously a story has strayed from that path it has never before completely lost its footing. The whole premise of the storyline is ridiculous. The location switches, as least so far, between England and Italy and unfortunately the Italian scenes are unnecessarily descriptive of the scenery. If I wanted a Tuscan travel guide I would have bought one. The greatest problem, however, is that in the Italian scenes Italian is sometimes used instead of English. I am an educated, well-travelled woman with a spattering of Italian but having the flow of the narrative constantly interrupted by totally arbitrary substitution of Italian words in place of English is pointless and annoying. To have whole sentences, and even dialogue,...

2. Much ado about nothing
I cannot believe this book is the work of Elizabeth George!
It is poorly written, with a trite plot and I had a hard time finishing it.
This is not the Elizabeth George I have enjoyed in the past. Most of the time I am a big fan and have read all of her books. I am especially a fan of Havers who usually adds a touch of spice to the story, and a fresh outlook as our hero Lynley can be a trifle stuffy at times. I enjoyed the fact that Havers was given some life of her own and couldn't wait to get this book and see what her latest adventures would be.
What a disappointment!
The story has already been told by other reviewers so I won't repeat it here. Take my advice ... try one of George's earlier books for an entertaining read, and don't waste your money on this one.

Oh, So Boring
First, if you are thinking this is an Inspector Lynley novel, it is not. It is a Barbara Havers novel and, had this been the first book I read by this typically brilliant writer, it would have been the last. This is a painfully tedious and slow read. Barbara Havers, Inspector Lynley's long time colleague, sets out to help her neighbor, a Pakistani named Azhar, introduced in previous books.

Barbara is hopelessly in love with Azhar and his daughter, Haddiyah, now aged 9. Barbara's hopes are dashed when the daughter's mother, Angelina, missing for years, suddenly turns up. Azhar welcomes the beautiful Angelina back into his life. Suddenly, without warning, Azhar returns from his job as a microbiologist to find both Angelina and Haddiyah gone and there is considerable evidence to suggest they will not return.

Angelina and Azhar never married as Azhar was already married with two children. He abandoned his family for Angelina but did not divorce his wife, so...

Divergent (Divergent Series)

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a s...

This Science Fiction give to us some advantages, like this :
1. Enthralling, Riveting Must Buy Novel!
Divergent was definitely a new riveting tale that had me rapidly flipping the pages in a reading frenzy! It starts off with the reader getting to know the lifestyle of Beatrice, a sixteen year old girl, in a dystopian or controlled world, where there are five factions of people: Abnegation who put others before their own needs and where Beatrice is currently from, the Dauntless who are brave and fearless, the Erudite who are studious, the Amity who are peaceful, and the Candor who are honest. Before Choosing Day, where each sixteen year old will decide which faction they wish to devote their life to, is a simulated aptitude test that will tell Beatrice which faction she would fit in most with...but for her life will never be simple. Instead of having just one of these traits as is normal, Beatrice possesses at least three, which makes her a dangerous person for reasons she doesn't understand, and answers are not forthcoming as she has to keep this information to herself or risk...

2. Is there a faction for those who love this book?
Wow.

When I finished 'Divergent' I sat thinking about it and feeling a lot like I did when I finished 'The Hunger Games'. It was a similar reading experience...a fast-paced story in an other world situation with a strong female character. The story transported me and I had a hard time pulling myself out of the book in order to continue with my every day things. In fact, when I closed the book after finishing it, I was struck by the desire to start over from the beginning because I didn't want the experience to stop. It was THAT good.

(I'm not giving a plot overview...many others have already done that)

The world Trice lives in is fascinating. I was gripped at first learning about the society and the factions and I found myself enjoying the story more and more as she chose a faction and went through the iniation process. In fact, I think the initiation (which takes up most of the book) was my favorite part.

The ending contains a twist I...

Dynamic, but shallow entertainment
We all know why "Divergent" was written. There is no doubt 99% of dystopias published during the last year or so have been trying to at least partially replicate the success of the trilogy. Public wants to read more dystopian stories, publishers want to sell them, authors want to write them. Everyone is happy.

I have read a few new dystopias recently and liked or disliked them to various degrees. There are dystopias for any taste, dystopias that emphasize separate aspects of the trilogy. There are dystopias that bank on romance ("Matched" or "Delirium"). There are dystopias that take the shock value route ("Wither"). And then there is "Divergent" that caters to the crowd who wants more action in their dystopias. And action this novel delivers!

In a few words, "Divergent" is a one long initiation trial. Beatrice Prior is a member of a society that has been maintaining its peaceful existence by separating its citizens into 5 distinct factions. These factions are...

This Tablets give to us some advantages, like this :
1. Decent, inexpensive, entry-level tablet
This is the next-generation Kindle Fire HD but with an updated operating system and new features, a redesigned shell (with the power and volume control buttons more readily accessible) and the power adapter included rather than as a separate $19.99 accessory. And all of this at a great price. When you consider the formerly separate cost of the adapter, you'd have spent $80 more just a couple of months ago for almost the same tablet.

NOTE: This is the base model of the three models that Amazon is shipping this year: the Kindle Fire HD, the Kindle Fire HDX, and the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9". Despite what I wrote above, this model is not really the successor for the Kindle Fire HD; it's the successor for the Kindle Fire. The successor for last year's Kindle Fire HD is this year's Kindle Fire HDX. I think a lot of reviewers are missing that point because of Amazon's unfortunate naming conventions. See http://www.amazon.com/review/R2KVHBC7NMNOGU for my review of the Kindle Fire HDX...

2. A 4.5 star tablet (Updated)
First off, I would like to say this tablet is a great deal for just $139.99. I tried finding a tablet for under 100$ that would just work properly, just to let you know it's impossible. First, I want to tell you how I decided to buy this tablet.

I first bought the 9 inch Dragon touch tablet for 78$ but to be blunt it sucked. It was so slow that the web browser would always freeze, even if I did a simple Google search. I did not want to take a chance with it anymore and returned it after 2 days of using it; then decided to give the kindle fire HD a chance.

Exterior: The exterior is well built. No loose pieces, and the plastic is very firm. My previous cheap tablet had plastic that felt it was going to snap if you held it too hard. Of course the iPad mini has a glass screen and aluminum body, but it also starts at 329$. There are 2 ports: a micro usb and a headphone jack to plug in your headphones. Has some nice new features, but I'm glad I kept my 2012 KFHD too!
This new KFHD replaces last year's basic Kindle Fire. Although it has some cool new features, it lacks a camera, microphone, and HDMI port. For this reason, I'm glad I kept my 2012 model since it does have these 3 features!

Here are my initial impressions of the 2013 Kindle Fire HD: I like the placement of the on/off & volume buttons. Being on opposite sides makes it unlikely to hit the wrong one. I never cared for the carousel (this is what you see when you turn your Kindle on and it contains all the books & apps you have recently accessed), and now there's an option to have favorites showing on the home screen instead, and the apps/books can be rearranged to your liking. I was very surprised that web pages can no longer be placed in the favorites bar (which is now being called "home"). I don't know why Amazon removed this option, and we also are unable to have the last accessed web page appear in the carousel. But you can still bookmark your favorite web pages &...

I have to admit that I'm not always 100 % sold on every book that I've downloaded for "free" on my kindle, but I seriously could hardly put this one down. The characters were really interesting and the suspense kept increasing as I progressed into the book. I noticed some reviewers stopped after few chapters and then rated it poorly. I can guarantee that if you continue on, you will not only finish the book, but maybe even have to stay up late one night to do so! I am looking forward to more books by this author...well done!

2. Be prepared...
Be prepared for a page-turning experience when you read this book! Roger Stelljes packs an extraordinary amount of twists, turns and intrigue into just four days as he takes you with Detective Mac McRyan and his cohorts through St. Paul and the surrounding area as they are pitted against seemingly brilliant adversaries. Stelljes' detailed style of writing brings you inside his characters where you'll feel their excitement and their frustrations as you travel with them throughout the Eastern metro and Western Wisconsin areas that are easily visualized through the author's vivid descriptions.

Often times they take practice to say correctly. Tongue twisters are good practice for children as they learn to form words, phrases, and vowels. It's hard to say a tongue twister without a smile on your face. Each tongue twister in this book ha...

This Jokes & Riddles give to us some advantages, like this :
1. Hilarious and a Lot of Fun
While this is titled as a book for kids, I am certain most adults will find this fairly humorous, also. Trying to say some of these silly phrases is almost impossible, but you will get a kick and a big round of laughter watching someone trying some of these (and the resulting sounds that come out as you foul them up) as well as your own attempts. I think the hardest one I've tried so far is "fresh fried fish, fish fresh fried, fried fish fresh, fish fried fresh."

I originally picked this up for free during a Kindle promotion vs. its normal price of $1.99: you and your family will certainly get more than $1.99 of entertainment and laughter value out of this one.

2. He sells a tongue twisters ebook in the Kindle store!
This Kindle ebook provides an excellent selection of tongue twisters, together with fun pictures illustrating them.

In our modern, technological world full of computers and smart phones sometimes it's a relief to take a break from typing or texting to fall back on an old and simple idea like tongue twisters. These are just strings of words that don't easily go together soundwise that you have to try to say as fast as you can. The results can be hilarious.

Getting a group of kids together to try to say tongue twisters can provide them with great amusement. A competitive element can be introduced to enhance the enjoyment, and sometimes a young person who is no good at sports or school work will discover a hidden talent for tongue twisters that raises his or her self-esteem.

They also have more serious uses. For those whose native language is not English, they can provide excellent practice in pronouncing consonant and vowel sounds. Children with speech...

Good tongue twisters for kids,my daughter laughed really hard. At the end of the bood there are a lot of links to other books. I don't like that it so easily accessible for my seven year old to click on a link and accidently purchase something, I will have to be with her when she reads this one.

The Racketeer

“The Racketeer is guilty of only one thing: keeping us engaged until the very last page.”—USA Today   #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER   In the history of the United States, only four active federal judges have been murdered. Judge Raymond Fawcett has just become number five. His body is found in his remote lakeside cabin. There is no sign of forced entry or struggle. Just two dead bodies: Judge Fawcett and his young secretary. And one large, state-of-the-art, extremely secure safe, opened and emptied.   One man, a former attorney, knows who killed Judge Fawcett, and why. But that man, Malcolm Bannister, is currently residing in the Federal Prison Camp near Frostburg, Maryland. Though serving time, Malcolm has an ace up his sle...

1. SUSPEND DISBELIEF: good yarn, page turner, overall fun.
I'm writing this bc I haven't bought a Grisham book that wasn't deeply discounted or free in YEARS.
I bought this book after the NYT review-- I think it's the first decent review of a Grisham book in a long time (last I remember). I have been on and off again about Grisham's books, (mostly off for a long time) honestly nothing for me will be as good as A Time To Kill, or The Chamber, or as fun as The Firm-- but I have read most of what he's written-- and mostly been "eh" about Grisham for several years.

Ok having said that-- as the title of my review states, this is a book you absolutely have to suspend disbelief-- especially if you are even remotely associated with the legal profession and if you're a lawyer - (actually even if you aren't) you will roll your eyes at some points-- but you WILL CONTINUE reading, because, as preposterous as some of the plot turns are, you will want to see where he goes with this. The main character stays in kind of a 'foreshadowing"...

2. It's fall so it's Grisham time...
John Grisham's work runs the gambit. Some serious, some funny, some nostalgic, and some sporty. But no matter what you know you're in for a good read. This one is no different. 'The Racketeer' falls somewhere between the seriousness of 'The Confession' and the fun of 'The Litigators'.

Our friend, Malcolm Bannister, is a lawyer who is in jail (I'll pause for your jokes here) for a crime he didn't commit. (Another pause). Fortunately for him the unfortunate demise of a Federal judge and his lady (hot, young, sexy, hot, you get the picture) friend is his key for early release. No clues, no witnesses, no leads, and no evidence. These frivolous minor details don't bother the FBI and they don't really bother Malcolm. He knows the truth and the Feds will pay dearly for it. Of course when dealing with the Feds and a jailed lawyer, "truth" is more of a mythological punchline than anything else.

While 'The Racketeer' is a fast read make yourself slow down, especially near...

Read it as soon as I got it on release day - pros and cons of the book
What you'll get in this one: the snappy characterizations and plot twists that make Grisham's legal thrillers so irresistible to his loyal fans. I received my book in the wee hours of release day, and stayed up reading the entire novel. It was too good to put down.

Grisham wisely keeps readers guessing about how lawyer Malcolm Bannister may pull off a revenge scheme. I was hooked as soon as I grasped the basic plot.

But this doesn't mean The Racketeer is flawless.. It took awhile for me to become fully engaged with the book -- mainly because Grisham took his time revealing crucial details and spent awhile describing prison life. Some of that is interesting and adds depth. But parts of the novel lagged for me.

The Racketeer starts off with lawyer Malcolm Bannister describing his basic situation: he has been sent to prison for 10 years based on a sentence "handed down by a weak and sanctimonious federal judge in Washington, DC". I'm not giving away...

Dark Witch: Book One of The Cousins O'Dwyer Trilogy

First in the all-new Cousins O’Dwyer Trilogy From #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts comes a trilogy about the land we’re drawn to, the family we learn to cherish, and the people we long to love… With indifferent parents, Iona Sheehan grew up craving devotion and acceptance. From her maternal grandmother, she learned where to find both: a land of lush forests, dazzling lakes, and centuries-old legends. Ireland. County Mayo, to be exact. Where her ancestors’ blood and magic have flowed through generations—and where her destiny awaits. Iona arrives in Ireland with nothing but her Nan’s directions, an unfailingly optimistic attitude, and an innate talent with horses. Not far from the luxurious castle w...

This Paranormal give to us some advantages, like this :
1. This is Not even a poor imitation of typical Nora Roberts
I have been an amazon.com customer since 1995 and this is the first review I have ever done. I usually can't be bothered, but this book is so atypically Nora Roberts, I had to have my say.

I have always been a big Nora Roberts fan. Unfortunately, with this last book she has dropped off my list of Author's whose books I wait impatiently for.

For all intents and purposes this is a copy of the Three sisters Island tribology, except it is not as well written or as well developed. It has the pentagram marked wolf manifestation, Iona is Nell, Branna is Mia and Fin is Sam Logan.

There is absolutely none of the character development I usually enjoy with Nora's books. There was too much description of Ireland and its ruins and no insight into the characters. I can't imagine any woman being attracted to Boyle. He is a non character. I think I would rather reread Three Sisters and save the money.

I don't understand what is going on with Nora. As...

2. Romance, Magic, Family, Ireland and Nora Roberts... A Tough Combination to Beat...
Well, fall is here, the leaves are changing and right on time, Nora Roberts gives us another engaging trilogy to curl up with. Dark Witch is about the O'Dwyer cousins Iona, Conner and Branna, all witches determined to vanquish the evil that has lived and threatened their family for 750 years. The setting for the tale is of course the beautiful Ireland that Roberts knows so well. I first discovered her love for the country in her Irish Born Trilogy... Born in Fire, Born in Ice and Born in Shame, also worth your time if you haven't yet read them.

The story begins in the winter of 1263 where we are introduced to the original Dark Witch Sorcha who tries desperately to vanquish the evil Sorcerer Cabhan who is determined to take her power. But it is left to her three children to keep the source of their family's power safe and pass it down from generation to generation until the power of three comes together again with the strength to rid the world of Cabhan once and for all...

Not liking it
Let me start my saying I am an avid Nora Roberts fan and eagerly await all her new books. That said I was severely disappointed in this book. I really couldn't say why until it hit me! I felt like I was doing a re-read. This book just hit me as a csmash-up of her Sign of Seven Triolgy and her Three Sisters Triolgy with a little bit of "Born In" thrown in. Branna is just another version of Mia and Iona of Nell.I was just totally disappointed in this book.

This Humor give to us some advantages, like this :
1. Good and light-hearted romance story
It's getting harder these days to come across a feel good romance novel that does not go into the steamy sex scenes. Sometimes, I would just really like the author just leaves the readers to wonder and to imagine. Just keep the story clean and sweet. With that, Ms LeClair totally delivers on this novel. Charlie and Dolly (house helper) are totally firecrackers and I just love how Alex indulges Charlie and how he supports her along the way. Really, it put a big smile on my face. It's charming just like the main story line. I truly enjoy this book. Well done! Ms. LeClair.

2. cute, easy romance
This was a cute, light romance. Very clean, any age could read it. The hero needs a wife, time to marry and produce an heir. The grandparents, who raised him, want this so to please them he sets out to procure a wife. He visits one family that has 2 daughters, duds, but the step-daughter is the one for him.

She is some what of a free spirit, thinks outside the box, and appears to be a lot of fun. He is instantly attracted and so the story takes off. They eventually fall in love with each other in a very short period of time but each has their own agenda and she especially seems to have her own best interest at heart and the heck with anyone else.

He makes the ultimate sacrifice, selling his island home, his yacht, various other holdings to get the million dollars needed to buy her "dream". Then realizing what she really wants, she GIVES the "dream" to the employees. I thought that was not generous, I thought it was selfish to take his money to give them...

The Goldfinch

"The Goldfinch is a rarity that comes along perhaps half a dozen times per decade, a smartly written literary novel that connects with the heart as well as the mind....Donna Tartt has delivered an extraordinary work of fiction."--Stephen King, The New York Times Book Review Composed with the skills of a master, The Goldfinch is a haunted odyssey through present day America and a drama of enthralling force and acuity. It begins with a boy. Theo Decker, a thirteen-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented abov...

1. A stunning success, one of the most striking novels I have read in years
I passed the Metropolitan Museum of Art the other day and was struck with a powerful and initially inexplicable melancholy. Then I realized I had been affected by the experience of reading The Goldfinch, in the opening chapters of which a great tragedy happens there. The book is compelling and moving. Tartt is a master of foreshadowing, letting us know just enough of what is to come that we feel helpless to put down the book. I found myself staying up late for several nights, turning page after page to connect the dots. This book is every bit the equal of The Secret History in this regard. And it exceeds that earlier book in its great emotional depth. The opening section, in New York City, is terribly sad and in the hands of a lesser author this material would be difficult to get past. However, Tartt has signaled us well enough about the future of our protagonist, Theodore Dekker, that we stick with him. And from...

2. A Great Expectations for our times
Running to almost 800 pages, The Goldfinch is going to require a substantial investment of your time, but I think anyone would be prepared to give Donna Tartt's new novel that much. What you might not realise until it is too late however is the amount of personal investment a book like this demands. By the time you get to the even half-way through the extraordinary 14 year journey that has taken Theo Decker to Amsterdam, the dawning realisation that this has to eventually come to an end suddenly hits you. Drawing out the inevitable isn't possible either as there's not a moment of The Goldfinch that doesn't have you completely in its thrall, reluctant to put it down and feeling bereft at its conclusion.

The Goldfinch is a masterpiece in the classic style of the Bildungsroman. The recounting of Theo Decker's unfolding awareness of the world, its complications, its criminality and injustice, the lack of stability in his life, his sense of being isolated and his ability to love...

Several GREAT novellas in one very long book!
I won't go into the plot since everyone will know it. My concern whenever I'm given or purchase a very long book is, "Will it keep me engaged?" and is it worth the weeks it will take me to finish it?"

The answer with THE GOLDFINCH is "Yes!" and "Sorta!"

To me, the book is divided into sections or novellas--the explosion, living with the wealthy family, moving to Vegas, etc.

The brilliant opening section immediately kept me engaged--I think the explosion and Theo's experience and recovery is some of the best writing I've read in years.

The family he moves in with may remind you of THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS or Salinger's Glass family. They are funny, a bit tragic and sort of odd. The father especially--something about his behavior seemed a bit "off" as did his wild dialogue; it didn't seem at all "real" in a novel that's very grounded in reality. (It's revealed later why he behaves this way.)

The next--and for me, strongest...

The Cuckoo's Calling

The Cuckoo's Calling is a 2013 crime fiction novel by J. K. Rowling, published under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.A brilliant mystery in a classic vein: Detective Cormoran Strike investigates a supermodel's suicide. After losing his leg to a land mine in Afghanistan, Cormoran Strike is barely scraping by as a private investigator. Strike is down to one client, and creditors are calling. He has also just broken up with his longtime girlfriend and is living in his office. Then John Bristow walks through his door with an amazing story: His sister, thelegendary supermodel Lula Landry, known to her friends as the Cuckoo, famously fell to her death a few months earlier. The police ruled it a suicide, but John refuses to believe that. The case ...

1. Great Read!
This book is so well written that I suspect that some years down the road we will hear the author's name is a pseudonym of some famous writer. Lots of description made one feel like another occupant in the scene. You could feel the weather, the tension, the pain, the atmosphere in the gatherings. The Audible version had great accents. It is a wonderful mystery with a surprise ending, and I look forward to more by the same author.

2. East End Girls and West End Boys
It's hard to put your finger on exactly what it is that makes The Cuckoo's Calling such a terrific new Private Investigator crime fiction debut. On the surface it seems straightforward, unexceptional and unambitious, everything fits the established conventions, there's nothing immediately new that stands out, and yet it's an utterly compelling read with strong characters that wraps you up completely and thrillingly into the investigation.

There's certainly nothing significantly new in the nature of the Private Detective at the centre of the book and series. Yes, the circumstances are a little different and the family background a little more colourful than most, but at heart, Cormoran Strike doesn't stray too far from the template - ex-army rather than ex-police, with a complicated personal life, a detective business that is on its last legs (no pun intended on Strike's service injury), clients are drying up, the loan that has set him up in London's Denmark Street is...

new writer worth watching
I am a mystery book addict, so I am seldom wrong about an ending- many writers, Patterson in particular, have resulted in formula writing- predictable characters and plots- so I welcome a new writer with a new character and a great ending. Pull up a chair, turn off the TV and enjoy.

Danny Walker is tracking Paulina Chourney who fell deep into the dark side of life and is lucky to get out before her boyfriend Maddox kills her. Until Danny Walker shows up to visit family and figures out who she is. When Paulina catches her 80-year-old landlady Hilda Clayton sneaking out in the middle of the night, the bad guys catch up to her and Danny disappears. Katie has to choose between spending her ...

This Private Investigators give to us some advantages, like this :
1. It works for a while, and then it stumbles
Having two POVs is really well done and easy to follow; the characters are real enough, and the protagonists are likable enough. The theme of escaping from crime-boss works, though I almost put the book down because the early chapters under crime boss control -- the lady so doped, drunk, and regularly abused -- didn't sound like someone who could be saved in the short time to be the primary protagonist.

But she did escape, and thus began the next phase of living undercover, just coincidentally in the home town of the under-cover cop who rescued her from the crime boss, but neither of them recognizes each other right away. That was pushing it a bit, but again well done so that it worked.

What finally didn't work for me was the conversion to Cozy by way of turning the plot over to a group of seniors (too many of them) with some antics that stretched it too far, and spending too much time introducing each of them to play their parts as co-heroes. They might have...

2. Great story
I liked this from the beginning through the end. It had a great message as well. It also had a cute little love story.

Its worth it for a single tip.
I picked this ebook up today and flipped through it quickly just to get a feel for what information was provided. I stopped at the Calibre section to read a little more closely. I downloaded Calibre to my PC a year or so ago but really never use it. Since this book revealed to me that I could get newspapers delivered for free I had to check it out. Wow, I never knew about this feature. Within about 2 minutes I was reading the english language newspaper from my old hometown, The Japan Times. I also checked out my current hometown paper and the Associated Press. If this is the only tip I use from this book it was worth it, but I am sure I'll find other useful information once I read it more closely.

This is the second 'how to' book I've downloaded by this author. I like how he explains things in a simple way that even the technically challenged such as myself can understand.

This Contemporary give to us some advantages, like this :
1. Offer a REAL book!
Nice story that would be rated 4; but here's my real problem - and has been for a while - I'm tired of authors selling books in teeny increments. Parts 1 through 3 should have been a single book or each part should be $.99 because that's all that's offered. Reading Part 1 was like reading the back of a cereal box while waiting for my Kindle to charge so I could read a "real" book. It seems the marketing people are steering lots of writers in the wrong direction - we are not sheep. Write a book and sell a book. Write a novella and price it accordingly. Check out Marie Force for examples of how to write a series.

2. I prefer a complete and edited edition
It was a nice story but left you hanging. And the irritation at all the editing errors really detracts from being able to just enjoy the story. I actualy like book series when they are complete books with a complete story and drawing in characters from previous novels. I will not buy each installment of the same story seperately or have to wait for it to be written when there are complete stories out there. This story had plenty of detail about the heroine but almost none about the hero and that was the most disappointing thing to me.

great cowboy romance
Stacey is a recently widowed woman whose husband leaves her with nothing. Her world is upended and she has to figure out how to move on in her new circumstances. She meets Owen, a sexy but quiet cowboy, and finds herself feeling things she hasn't in a very long time. Then the unimaginable happens and she discovers she has lots of people in her life that care about her.

I really enjoyed this story. It is a quick read (I think a little under 100 pages) and I found myself wishing it was longer. I really liked Stacey but wish we got to know Owen a little more. I am unsure as to whether the author, Elizabeth Nelson, plans on continuing with the story of Stacy and Owen or even any other Buchanan cowboys but I would definitely be interested in reading them if she does.

Killing Jesus: A History

Millions of readers have thrilled to bestselling authors Bill O’Reilly and historian Martin Dugard’s Killing Kennedy and Killing Lincoln, page-turning works of nonfiction that have changed the way we read history. Now the anchor of The O’Reilly Factor details the events leading up to the murder of the most influential man in history: Jesus of Nazareth. Nearly two thousand years after this beloved and controversial young revolutionary was brutally killed by Roman soldiers, more than 2.2 billion human beings attempt to follow his teachings and believe he is God. Killing Jesus will take readers inside Jesus’s life, recounting the seismic political and historical events that made his death inevitable - and changed the world forever.

This Church History give to us some advantages, like this :
1. The Gospel according to Bill and Martin
This is a very difficult book to review, as you can imagine whenever you read and try to write a review concerning a book about a religious figure. I know that the authors say that this is not a religious book, but instead one that focuses on the humanity of Jesus Christ. They have done a good job treading the fine line between straight biography and religious writing.

Of course, the main, and possibly only, source for the life of the Nazarene (as the authors term him) are the four gospels with which most readers are familiar. Interspersed with these writings you will find chapters devoted to Julius Caesar, Cleopatra, Tiberius, and other historical characters. There is a brief, but concise, history of Rome, and short biographies of some of the figures, including Pontius Pilate and the several Herods. It appears that the authors accept the gospel account of the birth in Bethlehem and the visit of the Magi, which led to the slaughter of the infants in Bethlehem at the...

2. The Historical But Not Spiritual
This book is going to be big, a near-lock for the bestseller lists. First Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard teamed up to write a book about Killing Lincoln and it sold more than a million copies. They followed it up with Killing Kennedy and it sold briskly as well. And now they turn their attention to their greatest subject: Jesus of Nazareth. Killing Jesus: A History is a short biography of Jesus, focusing on the events leading to his death.

From the outset, the authors make it clear that though they are Roman Catholics, they are not writing a religious book. Rather, they are writing a historical account of a historical figure "and are interested primarily in telling the truth about important people, not converting anyone to a spiritual cause." They necessarily rely on the four gospels for their source material and often tell their story by directly quoting the Bible.

They begin, though, by setting Jesus firmly in his historical context and skillfully telling...

Interesting History of Jesus's Time On Earth
As a Christian, I struggled with whether I should read this book or just stay away from it. Because of a deep interest of history in general I decided to 'give it a shot.'
I was not disappointed. This work was filled with the historical accounts of the geographical, political and human events that were going on at the time.
You must understand that the author clearly stated this was not a 'religious' book, rather an 'historical' work. I was never offended by the way Christ and his followers were portrayed. In fact, I believe this book can actually draw Christians back to the Bible as they consider certain aspects and statements found within.
As with any study of history one must rely upon the research and intellect of the writer. It seems to me the 'homework' was done.
This book must be approached with an open mind as any historical reading should be. We must be careful not to isolate ourselves from reading books such as these. My 'Heart for Christ'...

Identical (Kindle County)

State Senator Paul Giannis is a candidate for Mayor of Kindle County. His identical twin brother Cass is newly released from prison, 25 years after pleading guilty to the murder of his girlfriend, Dita Kronon. When Evon Miller, an ex-FBI agent who is the head of security for the Kronon family business, and private investigator Tim Brodie begin a re-investigation of Dita's death, a complex web of murder, sex, and betrayal-as only Scott Turow could weave-dramatically unfolds...

This Legal give to us some advantages, like this :
1. A review of the entire novel
This is a review of the entire novel, not of the free four chapter preview.

The identical twin crime novel has been done so often it's become a cliché, but Scott Turow knows that. Just when I thought I had it figured out and was disappointed that the story followed an obvious path, the plot twisted. Then it twisted again, becoming a different story altogether. Kudos to Turow for taking a familiar plot device and doing something new with it. Unlike some of Turow's other novels, Identical isn't a courtroom thriller, a departure that might disappoint readers who want an author to write the same novel over and over. It is instead a novel about the intersection of politics and law. That's been done before too, but few writers do it better than Turow. Identical is set in the familiar legal terrain of Kindle County and features several secondary characters (including Sandy Stern) who are well known to Turow's fans.

Paul Gianis is a brand new attorney who, as the...

2. CSI--with twins
Scott Turow has carved out a niche in legal fiction. As a practicing lawyer who has several novels that have been made into movies, he has a great feel for translating legal concepts and arguments into an interesting story. In Identical, one brother confesses to murdering his girlfriend, while his twin brother establishes his legal and political career. As the story begins, with the first brother's release from prison after his 25 year sentence, it becomes clear that there is more to the story.

When the lawyer brother ends up facing the murdered girl's brother in a political campaign, the old case takes center stage again, and the rest of the story slowly comes out. Much of the development of the novel reads like an episode of CSI or some other TV crime drama. Turow may be found guilty of abusing the readers' credulity. A couple of allusions are made to Shakespeare's use of confusion between twins in his plays. Those plays always frustrated me for their silliness...

Castor and Pollux, modern dress
A novel revolving around a murder and the parts that twin brothers play in it loosely based on the ancient Greek myth of Castor and Pollux. The Greek version has one of the twins mortal and the other the son of Zeus, head of the Gods and immortal. Upon the death of the mortal twin the other asks if his immortality can be shared with his dead brother.
Paul and Cass Giannis are identical twins growing up in Turow's favorite locale: Kindle county. Their family has been involved in a long term feud with their former neighbors the Kronons. Cass falls in love with Dita Kronon and wants to marry her in spite of the opposition of both families to the match. At a party given by Zeus Kronon, the patriarch of his family and her father Dita is beaten and murdered in her own room. Shortly afterward Cass confesses to the crime and plea bargains his way into serving 25 years at a minimum security prison.
The main events of the book take place in 2008, the year that Cass is released...

THE ACCIDENTAL HERO

THE ACCIDENTAL HERO (A Digital Short)A ruthless hitman confronts his destiny in a startling tale of redemption.

This Mystery & Suspense give to us some advantages, like this :
1. Riveting - Not Your Typical Redemption Tale
The product description was so brief that one really has no idea what to expect from the story. I anticipated it being a feel-good Christian redemption story. Oh, there are some feel-good moments but more often it is anxious and riveting. It is a story that imprisons the reader and torments his curiosity.

From the minute Brian introduces Big Pete, I was hooked. Big Pete is the scariest, meanest looking cell-mate ever to enter Salton Sea State Penn. According to Brian, Big Pete also has most people wetting their pants in respectful fear. The author cleverly draws the scene while the dialog has an authentic cadence that makes it convincing and real. The author locks you in the prison cell beside Brian and Big Pete keeps you there. Who will be redemed? This is a page turner that had me chewing my lip and sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for redemption. The cold-blooded "killing machine" is a daunting and plausible character. He will keep you suspicious and on...

2. An inspirational short story...
This short story by Joshua Graham is the perfect companion to his bestseller, "Beyond Justice". It is a great story about the transforming power of faith. I am not an overly "religious" person but the story really touched me. I guess we all need something greater than ourselves to believe in and lift our lives up. The characters in this story were also well fleshed out and believable--which is hard to do in a short story format. I really enjoyed this story and will share it with others who need a perfect, uplifting start to their day!

Redemption for the most unlikely of cadidates!
Big Pete has been a hit man for years. He has never had any problems completing his commissions, but things are about to change. On the day he receives his latest from a man who owns an adult entertainment store, his life gets a bit strange. The first thing he notices is every time he seems to pick up something, a biblical scripture is printed somewhere on it. When he arrives to take out his target, his life literally gets turned on its ear.

This is a very special redemption story of the least likely of candidates. I found it both compelling and uplifting. You will think about it long after you finish turning pages. Very highly recommended!

The Valley of Amazement

Amy Tan’s The Valley of Amazement is a sweeping, evocative epic of two women’s intertwined fates and their search for identity, that moves from the lavish parlors of Shanghai courtesans to the fog-shrouded mountains of a remote Chinese village.Spanning more than forty years and two continents, The Valley of Amazement resurrects pivotal episodes in history: from the collapse of China’s last imperial dynasty, to the rise of the Republic, the explosive growth of lucrative foreign trade and anti-foreign sentiment, to the inner workings of courtesan houses and the lives of the foreign “Shanghailanders” living in the International Settlement, both erased by World War II.A deeply evocative narrative about the profound connections between...

This Family Saga give to us some advantages, like this :
1. Generic Amy Tan
As an enthusiastic fan of Amy Tan ever since her first novel,The Joy Luck Club, and then even more so after my emotional connection with her memoir, The Opposite of Fate: Memories of a Writing Life - which brought me to my knees because I too, like Amy, am afflicted with Chronic Lyme Disease - it hurts me to write anything less than a 5-star review for her latest work, THE VALLEY OF AMAZEMENT.

But if I am to be honest here, even at the risk of being unpopular among my fellow reviewers who are also fans of Amy Tan, I am afraid I must take the middle road in my evaluation of it. Let me cut to the chase - I found this novel less than amazing. At best I would say it is generic Amy Tan.

Even though parts of the book are really quite good, perhaps even worthy of a 5-star assessment, for several reasons the book as a whole...

2. An epic story of a courtesan at the turn of the 19th century Shanghai
Violet was raised in a courtesan house in Shanghai run by her American mother Lulu. Lulu was not only the madam of one of the most exclusive courtesan house, but a rich and well connected business woman. As a daughter of a powerful American woman, Violet considered herself above courtesans and Chinese people. She later found out that her father was Chinese and she was only half American. That fact added to her self identity problems.

When Violet was 14, Lulu decided to leave Shanghai to go home because of the political instability. Then, Lulu was tricked by her lover, and ended up leaving Violet behind. Violet was sold to another Courtesan house and forced to become a virgin courtesan. Violet experienced many heartaches, and eventually learned to live her life as well as possible.

I have read every book (except for children's books) by Amy Tan. And she is one of my favorite authors. "The Valley of Amazement" would be my 4th favorite of hers after...

Not my favorite
*** Warning, there are some spoilers***
It is a testament to Tan's writing that I finished this book. I do not like spending so much time with characters I do not like or respect. Violet Minturn, the daughter of a famed American courtesan mistress in Shanghi, is someone I didn't enjoy. A spoiled brat would be a good description. Violet is half American, half Chinese, a fact that she doesn't discover until she's 8 or 9. She creeps around the house spying on all the courtesans at work. Nothing her mother does is good enough and Violet never feels loved.

Violet's mother decides to return to San Francisco and is tricked into leaving Violet behind. Word is sent to her that Violet has died. Violet is sold into another courtsesan house as a virgin and is trained to take up the profession. Even though she knows her mother was tricked in leaving her behind and that her mother believes her dead, she is outraged her mother doesn't come back for her. Her unhappiness colors every...

Double Down: Game Change 2012

Michiko Kakutani, The New York Times: "Those hungry for political news will read Double Down for the scooplets and insidery glimpses it serves up about the two campaigns, and the clues it offers about the positioning already going on among Republicans and Democrats for 2016 ... The book testifies to its authors’ energetic legwork and insider access... creating a novelistic narrative that provides a you-are-there immediacy... They succeed in taking readers interested in the backstabbing and backstage maneuvering of the 2012 campaign behind the curtains, providing a tactile... sense of what it looked like from the inside." In their runaway bestseller Game Change, Mark Halperin and John Heilemann captured the full drama of Barack Obama

This book is something that just pulled me in. I was looking for some christian fictious books, and Chris Hibbard really exceeded my standards! In the Author's words;"

How does a promotion compare with this: to see my children grown and successful: committed to God and enjoying the peace only He can bring--to see my wife, cared for and surrounded by them, a loving family knit so close together? If I'd been promoted, it could in no way have added to this great treasure."

"Yes, I will tell them. I will call them, and I will tell them this same message I've been telling you for so long...this message you chose not to hear. Why did you ignore me, dear child? I told you every day, and showed you in a thousand ways, but you were too busy to listen. How loudly must I whisper before you hear Me?"

They're instructions, not memories--God sent me instructions in my dream. "

This Suspense give to us some advantages, like this :
1. Story B+...grammer F
I need to start this review by telling you that I have a degree in English and, whether I want to or not, I "see" all the typos and missing words in the books that I read. Sometimes I drive myself nuts. And this book drove me batty!

The story is pretty good. The characters are fairly well drawn and I could get invested in them. The story itself isn't too bad, though at times it moves much too fast, and the bad guys are pretty obvious from the very beginning.

But the editor of this book should be ashamed of him/herself! Short choppy sentences. Verbs that change tenses in the same sentence. Sentences that are just phrases. It was very difficult to enjoy reading the story when you have to wade through all the bad grammer to understand what you're reading.

That being said...I have purchased the second book in the series : The Aspens Fall. I'm working on the theory that some lessons were learned in the writing and publishing of the first book.

2. The Aspen Series
I just finished reading all three of the books in the Aspen Series. Now, I'm wondering why I put myself through that three times. I don't think I've ever read a book that had so many typos, mispelled words and bad grammar it in. Just out of curiosity, when I started the third book, I kept a running total of how many errors I found. I found 19 just in the third book alone!! I'm sure if I were to go back and re-read it, I could find more. It's too bad there is not a minus rating on these books. I don't think I will ever read another one by this author.

Missing words, bad grammar and a lot of short sentences that just don't make sense. Reminds me a lot of the Dick & Jane books I read as a child. See Dick. See Dick run. This was a painful read!

A Matter of Choice

A novel of peril and passion from #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts. The last thing NYPD Sergeant James “Slade” Sladerman needs is to babysit a spoiled heiress. But Jessica Winslow’s antiques shop is suspected of being used by an international smuggling ring, and Slade is being sent undercover to investigate—and keep Jessica out of trouble. The woman Slade meets isn’t what he expected. And neither is the desire that springs up between them… Includes a preview of Nora Roberts' Dark Witch.

This give to us some advantages, like this :
1. A Matter of Choice
A Matter of Choice is a previously published work under a different title by Nora Roberts, which I had already read. So sad that it was advertised like it was a new work and that I purchased it for my Kindle!

2. RE-RELEASE OF OLD WORK
I just hate it when publishers launch a "new release" and give a "new" publish date to an old book. It feels cheap and sleazy. They could at least offer to buy us dinner prior to pay for play. InterMix was launched as the e-book arm of Penguin publishing. In its fairly short life, it has gained a reputation for this kind of thing. I purchased this download and found myself reading a very old Nora Roberts book. One she wrote many, many years ago, long before she had reached her maturation as a writer. It is the novel of a MUCH younger writer. That is to say; it is not as complex, engaging, entertaining (etc) as the novels Roberts will write as she matures. So unless you REEEEEEEEEALLY want a N. Roberts fix, and you have read ABSOLUTELY everything else out there, including the funnies in the printed paper and/or the back of the breakfast cereal, don't make this purchase and feel cheated and disappointed. The next time you see InterMix or Penguin Group, LLC as the publisher, do...

VIntage Nora Roberts from 1984
Bring out your Bodyguard soundtrack- this is an early Roberts - suspense romance and plenty of action as always. A little dated re women and their place in the workforce- otherwise still a good read.

Synopsis:

It was one for the books- Sgt. James "Slade" Sladerman had practically been born to the force, but he wanted to be a writer, not a cop. No one was more different from him than Jessica Winslow, who was wealthy and working only because she wanted to.

He felt the gap between them keenly and almost refused to be her undercover bodyguard. But someone had to watch over her and he'd given his word- regardless of her innocence or guilt. Slade couldn't afford to care but in the shadow of danger, in the arms of the woman he'd sworn to protect Slade knew whatever the price, he'd meet it.
