A Matter of Choice

A novel of peril and passion from #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts. The last thing NYPD Sergeant James “Slade” Sladerman needs is to babysit a spoiled heiress. The woman Slade meets isn’t what he expected. And neither is the desire that springs up between them… Includes a preview of Nora Roberts' Dark Witch.

This give to us some advantages, like this :
1. A Matter of Choice
A Matter of Choice is a previously published work under a different title by Nora Roberts, which I had already read. So sad that it was advertised like it was a new work and that I purchased it for my Kindle!

2. RE-RELEASE OF OLD WORK
I just hate it when publishers launch a "new release" and give a "new" publish date to an old book. It feels cheap and sleazy. They could at least offer to buy us dinner prior to pay for play. InterMix was launched as the e-book arm of Penguin publishing. In its fairly short life, it has gained a reputation for this kind of thing. I purchased this download and found myself reading a very old Nora Roberts book. One she wrote many, many years ago, long before she had reached her maturation as a writer. It is the novel of a MUCH younger writer. That is to say; it is not as complex, engaging, entertaining (etc) as the novels Roberts will write as she matures. So unless you REEEEEEEEEALLY want a N. Roberts fix, and you have read ABSOLUTELY everything else out there, including the funnies in the printed paper and/or the back of the breakfast cereal, don't make this purchase and feel cheated and disappointed. The next time you see InterMix or Penguin Group, LLC as the publisher, do...

VIntage Nora Roberts from 1984
Bring out your Bodyguard soundtrack- this is an early Roberts - suspense romance and plenty of action as always. A little dated re women and their place in the workforce- otherwise still a good read.

Synopsis:

It was one for the books- Sgt. James "Slade" Sladerman had practically been born to the force, but he wanted to be a writer, not a cop. No one was more different from him than Jessica Winslow, who was wealthy and working only because she wanted to.

He felt the gap between them keenly and almost refused to be her undercover bodyguard. But someone had to watch over her and he'd given his word- regardless of her innocence or guilt. Slade couldn't afford to care but in the shadow of danger, in the arms of the woman he'd sworn to protect Slade knew whatever the price, he'd meet it.
